Voted Best Neighborhood Restaurant in the West Valley. Alex & Rachel Gomez first visited Rio Mirage Cafe in 1977 when it was called La Mexicana. It was so quaint and charming they fell in love with it. In 1999 the couple bought the restaurant and renamed it Rio Mirage Cafe. Making it one of the best family owned in the west valley.
They named it Rio, because the Aqua Fria River is just up the road, and Mirage because it is in the City of El Mirage.
The couple bring old recipes handed down from generations, from grandmothers and mothers alike. Rachel has added her own special flair from the recipes she learned in culinary school in Puebla, Mexico. All food is fresh and made in their kitchens using fresh Mexican spices like cumin and herbs like epazote, and flor de calabacita. Sauces are made fresh daily uniting flavors from 14 different types of chiles and tomatillos.
Rio Mirage Cafe was established to provide all their neighbors and families a charming and affordable place to enjoy their favorite Mexican with families and old friends and continue making new amigos in the best of the Mexican tradition. Keeping with tradition.
Motivated by request from many customers, Rio Mirage has expanded to Surprise and plan to build another in the east valley and to provide fine Mexican food to all parts of AZ.
Rio Mirage Cafe provides banquet rooms for special occassions at no extra charge. Catering has been a big part of Rio success and plans are to continue to bring excellent food and everyday memories to all their guests.

Rio Mirage Cafe in El Mirage is located on the access/frontage road between Greenway and Thunderbird Roads, on the southeast side of Grand Avenue, where the railroad track crosses Grand Ave. It's difficult to find, but just look for El Mirage Road and Grand Ave. Use the Food City or the Primrose light to get on the access road.
