About Us

We are Barry and Catherine Cohen. In 2003 we created Premier Barter to fill a void in the barter industry. How did we know there was a void? Because we experienced it firsthand.

In 1999, both of us joined a barter exchange with our respective businesses. We used our barter dollars to improve our businesses and bring us new cash clients. We were able to advertise, create legal documents, print our collateral materials, and more. We also used barter dollars to improve our personal lives with dental work, vacations, dinners out, and auto repairs.

As members in a barter exchange, we received many benefits, but there was also a great deal lacking.

We were limited to bartering with only members in our small, local exchange.
Finding goods or services outside our group required constant calls to our broker and always cost us far more in transaction fees.
Price gouging was permitted.
All members were treated differently depending on their level of bartering business.
There was no guidance given to the members on how to barter. This caused us to take far more in barter dollars than we could comfortably afford.
A majority of members were "brokered" or hidden from others members. It was impossible to know where we could spend our barter dollars.
A printed directory came out once every 18 months and was obsolete before it was even printed.
In an effort to find another exchange to barter in, we began to interview other barter exchanges and their members. While many had the same problems, we also found -

Calls to the office took days and sometimes weeks to be returned.
Closed accounts would continue to be charged fees.
Correspondence was only permitted by email. Phone calls were discouraged.
So we set about to create a barter company that was different and better than what we had experienced. Barter is a tool that, when used properly, can greatly improve your business and your lifestyle. Our goal is to help our members use bartering to gain the greatest advantage over their competition and to increase their cash profits.

We are a very unique business couple. Both sets of parents were small business owners. We grew up in households very different from our friends. Each family business – a retail shoe store and an accounting practice, was incorporated into everyday family life. Early on, each of us understood what it meant to be an entrepreneur.
